{"id":788,"date":"2013-10-17T04:52:41","date_gmt":"2013-10-17T04:52:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/?p=788"},"modified":"2013-10-17T04:52:41","modified_gmt":"2013-10-17T04:52:41","slug":"getting-started-in-wwii-gaming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/?p=788","title":{"rendered":"Getting Started in WWII Gaming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A while back, I got the Flames Of War <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Flames-of-War-Open-Fire\/dp\/B009L7QZS4\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1381985379&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=open+fire%21+flames+of+war\" target=\"_blank\">Open Fire!<\/a> box set as a gift. \u00a0There&#8217;s 100+ 15mm miniatures in there, as well as the FoW rulebook, painting guides, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Too Fat Lardies released their excellent WWII skirmish rules, <a href=\"http:\/\/toofatlardies.co.uk\/index.php?main_page=index&amp;cPath=25\" target=\"_blank\">Chain Of Command<\/a>. Reading those rules, and reading the FoW rules, I quickly decided I&#8217;d rather play Chain Of Command.<\/p>\n<p>That doesn&#8217;t mean the Open Fire! box set is useless. \u00a0Far from it. \u00a0The miniatures in that box are of excellent quality, and there are a lot of them. \u00a0Chain Of Command is intended for 28mm, but the rules state it can be played in 15mm with no adjustments. \u00a0I already play Sci-Fi in 15mm, so I have lots of terrain that can do double duty. \u00a0Using the FoW minis to play Chain Of Command in 15mm is a no brainer for me.<\/p>\n<p>So, tonight I assembled a German platoon, as specified by the CoC army lists, from my FoW minis:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Chain_of_command_german_platoon_raw.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-785\" alt=\"Chain_of_command_german_platoon_raw\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Chain_of_command_german_platoon_raw.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"334\" \/><\/a>That&#8217;s the platoon command group in the front &#8211; a leader with a 2 man panzershreck team. \u00a0Then 3 squads, each with a leader and panzerfaust, a MG42 machine gun with 2 crew and a rifleman, and six rifleman.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s 39 minis. \u00a0This is the core of your force in CoC.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a size comparison between the the FoW minis and some 15mm Sci-Fi minis from <a href=\"http:\/\/rebelminis.com\/eafomahewe.html\" target=\"_blank\">Rebel Minis<\/a> I have in progress:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Size_comparison_FoW_Rebel_minis_sci_fi.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-786\" alt=\"Size_comparison_FoW_Rebel_minis_sci_fi\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Size_comparison_FoW_Rebel_minis_sci_fi.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"255\" \/><\/a>39 minis. \u00a0I&#8217;ve got a lot of painting to do. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A while back, I got the Flames Of War Open Fire! box set as a gift. \u00a0There&#8217;s 100+ 15mm miniatures in there, as well as the FoW rulebook, painting guides, and more.
