{"id":726,"date":"2013-09-15T18:50:22","date_gmt":"2013-09-15T18:50:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/?p=726"},"modified":"2013-09-16T06:45:09","modified_gmt":"2013-09-16T06:45:09","slug":"assembling-and-painting-wargames-factory-saxons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/?p=726","title":{"rendered":"Assembling and Painting Wargames Factory Saxons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last several weeks I&#8217;ve been assembling and painting <a href=\"http:\/\/wargamesfactory.com\/webstore\/hammer-of-the-gods\/saxon-thegns\" target=\"_blank\">Wargames Factory&#8217;s plastic Saxons.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/what_i_deal_with.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-725\" alt=\"what_i_deal_with\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/what_i_deal_with.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"484\" \/><\/a>They come on several sprues, body, head, each arm, shield, and weapons all separate. \u00a0It took me about an hour to do 4 soldiers. \u00a0Clip off the sprue, choose and fit the parts, clean up the mold lines, and glue.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/ready_for_decals.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-712\" alt=\"ready_for_decals\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/ready_for_decals.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"235\" \/><\/a><a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/shields.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-722\" alt=\"shields\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/shields.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"308\" \/><\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">I used\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"http:\/\/littlebigmenstudios.co.uk\/catalog\/\" target=\"_blank\">Little Big Men Studios&#8217;\u00a0<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">shield transfers. \u00a0I read that it was easier to apply the transfer if the shield was not attached to the soldier, so I did the shields separately. \u00a0If I were to do it again, I&#8217;d go ahead and attach the shields from the beginning. Applying the transfers was pretty easy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/all_assembled.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-716\" alt=\"all_assembled\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/all_assembled.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"470\" \/><\/a>\u00a0A bunch of them assembled and ready for primer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/dane_axes_primed_and_chainmail.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-710\" alt=\"dane_axes_primed_and_chainmail\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/dane_axes_primed_and_chainmail.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"408\" \/><\/a>One point of Hearthguard. \u00a0I primed them black, then dry brushed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thearmypainter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Army Painter&#8217;s<\/a> Gun Metal over the metal parts &#8211; helmet, chainmail and axe heads. \u00a0When I do this step next time (for my levy) I&#8217;ll use a leather brown primer instead of black. \u00a0Then I can paint everything but the belts, straps, etc.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/dane_axes_washed.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-711\" alt=\"dane_axes_washed\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/dane_axes_washed.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"398\" \/><\/a>Getting close to done.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/based.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-709\" alt=\"based\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/based.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"321\" \/><\/a>Two points of Hearthguard painted and based.<\/p>\n<p>Wargames Factory&#8217;s plastic minis get a bad rap in some circles, but I think they are great value for the money. \u00a0I got them for $15.99 at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewarstore.com\/product53508.html\" target=\"_blank\">The War Store<\/a>, and there&#8217;s 32 soldiers in a box, so that&#8217;s 50 cents each. \u00a0Each box also has more weapons, heads, and arms than you need, so you have a lot of flexibility in your poses and armament.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last several weeks I&#8217;ve been assembling and painting Wargames Factory&#8217;s plastic Saxons.
