{"id":229,"date":"2013-04-10T04:33:35","date_gmt":"2013-04-10T04:33:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/?p=229"},"modified":"2013-06-29T22:00:29","modified_gmt":"2013-06-29T22:00:29","slug":"adventures-in-basing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/?p=229","title":{"rendered":"Adventures in Basing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I tried my hand at making bases with Green Stuff. \u00a0I was painting GZG&#8217;s 15mm <a href=\"http:\/\/shop.groundzerogames.net\/index.php?_a=viewProd&amp;productId=792\" target=\"_blank\">Ravagers Pack A<\/a>\u00a0and I really wanted to make nice bases. \u00a0I had some Green Stuff freshly delivered from Amazon, and I decided to give it a try.<\/p>\n<p>I hadn&#8217;t really planned ahead at all, so I was improvising. \u00a0All in all, I think it came out pretty well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/ladies_painted.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-223\" alt=\"ladies_painted\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/ladies_painted.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"321\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s all 8 figures in Ravagers Pack A, 4 models, 2 of each. \u00a0I plan to use these for role playing, so I wanted to make them different &#8211; like the two women were different women, despite the same pose.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/all_painted.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-227\" alt=\"all_painted\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/all_painted.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"335\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the four figures I concentrated on painted and washed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/wet_pallette.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-221\" alt=\"wet_pallette\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/wet_pallette.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"655\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is the disposable wet palette I use. \u00a0A paper towel, soaked in water, with parchment paper over it. \u00a0The kind of parchment paper I found in my kitchen, on a roll. \u00a0It will keep the paint wet and ready to use for hours. \u00a0Thanks to\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UC7hdmRjMmkVxrCn-biR-Egg\" target=\"_blank\">Rottenlead<\/a> and his excellent videos for introducing me to the wet palette concept.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/wood_base_only.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-220\" alt=\"wood_base_only\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/wood_base_only.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"446\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I use 0.8mm plywood bases, 20mm diameter, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.litko.net\/products\/Circular-Miniature-Bases%3A-20-mm.html#.UWTod6tvskI\" target=\"_blank\">Litko.net<\/a>. \u00a0I put their &#8220;Heavy Duty Magnetic Base Bottoms&#8221; underneath them. \u00a0Above is the plywood base only.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/ready_for_basing.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-222\" alt=\"ready_for_basing\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/ready_for_basing.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"354\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Those are the plywood base with the magnetic bottom attached. \u00a0Putting the minis on a stick with poster sticky stuff during painting is something else I learned from Rottenlead&#8217;s videos.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/glued.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-225\" alt=\"glued\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/glued.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"411\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Glued to the base with super glue. \u00a0That glue in the picture is the best. \u00a0The glue is very thick, and the squeezable sides give great control. \u00a0&#8220;Gel Control&#8221; is a very good description.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/green_stuff_base.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-224\" alt=\"green_stuff_base\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/green_stuff_base.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"686\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Green Stuff on the base and textured. \u00a0I used some of the metal mesh I use for chain link fences (article coming soon), some sewing thread to press straight lines, and the texture from one of my metal files to press the details into the Green Stuff. \u00a0You can see on the black haired woman that some metal dust came off my file. \u00a0I later used some spare Green Stuff to clean my files to almost new. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/file.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-226\" alt=\"file\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/file.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"845\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The file. \u00a0You can see the textures I used.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/all_4_based.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-228\" title=\"GZG Ravagers Pack A\" alt=\"GZG Ravagers Pack A\" src=\"http:\/\/tabletop.magigames.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/all_4_based.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"306\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The finished bases. \u00a0I used Citadel&#8217;s &#8216;Ardstuff to make them glossy. \u00a0Two coats. \u00a0My drybrushing of the yellow could have been better. \u00a0\ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I think it was a good first try. \u00a0I have a ton of ideas on what to do better next time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I tried my hand at making bases with Green Stuff. \u00a0I was painting GZG&#8217;s 15mm Ravagers Pack A\u00a0and I really wanted to make nice bases. \u00a0I had some Green Stuff freshly delivered from Amazon, and I decided to give it a try.
